Description
You will receive a basket nearly identical to the one pictured, but please keep in mind that every baskets is uniquely handwoven and differs in design. The remote Binga district is home to the severely disadvantaged BaTonga people. In the early 1960’s, their fertile lands were permanently buried in water during construction of one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, Lake Kariba, and they were forced to relocate. Today, some women traditionally still use small vines, wild grasses and natural palm leaves which are sometimes dyed with tree bark to weave intricately patterned baskets. The basket would normally be used for winnowing maize in Zimbabwe but this basket looks amazing when placed on a wall in your home or framed in a shadow box.
